PICTURES OF OUR COLLECTION

John and Joanna got interested in collecting Bossons after John’s father passed away in 1993 and they found his collection of 50 pieces, boxed in the attic. As a child, John remembered the faces staring down at him from his parents’ walls. While his father managed to convince his wife to let him use the extra money he earned as a union shop steward to purchase the Bossons, his mom never really liked them. "Mom thought they were ugly and she didn’t think they matched her décor. When John came across the boxes in the attic, it was Joanna who convinced him to take the collection home as a way to remember his dad. From the original 50 his father had collected, the Cassidy’s collection has now reached 500-plus pieces which is displayed all in one room. The characterizations are centered on themes such as Men of the Deserts, Mountains, and Seas – The Americans – Shakespearean Characters – The Dickens Collection – The Seafarers – The Europeans – Regal and Traditional – The Victorians – The Military Series and the Country-side Collection. Other popular series consisted of animals and birds produced as: - The Dogs of Distinction – Cats of Character – The Wildlife Wall Figures – Briar Rose – Fraser Art and The Crown Collection Series.

What makes Bossons intriguing is the detail that the artists managed to capture. The faces are not blank expressions, but rather have mystery and depth that makes the observer wonder just what adventure surround these foreign people. They are glossily colorful, with vivid shades of primary colors decorating hats, turbans, jewelry and necklines. Since each Bosson is hand-painted, interesting variations show up making each piece somewhat unique. Some of the painters took additional liberties with them, with an example being the Mikado full-length figurine. It can be found with the dragon on the Mikado’s fan painted on some models and unpainted on others. Owning Bossons is an opportunity to fraternize with rogues, kings, sailors, mystics, soldiers and cowboys. John just loves to sit in his den at night and stare up at the 500-plus pieces and imagine what it would be like to be a part of their world.
